I was requested to make a wedding card for a couple who likes owls. I bought the Stampin' Up owl punch ages ago, but have hardly ever used it so I thought this was the perfect time to get it out and use it one last time before selling it on eBay. I wanted to dress up the cute little critters in their wedding finest, so I selected a bright red bow and pearl buttons for Mr Owl and a lace dress with rhinestones for Mrs Owl.
I created the background by watercolouring through ARTplorations Hearts All Over Mini stencil using Gansai Tambi pearlescent watercolour for a subtle sheen. I also splattered a bit of the pearlescent red to give the background a bit more interest. I die cut the sentiment from bright red and pearlescent grey card using CUTplorations Congrats Word die and finally die cut the whole card panel using CUTplorations Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Nesting Dies.
I wish Mr and Mrs Owl all the best in their future life together!

There's plenty of challenges this week that are more or less Easter Themed. And what better theme than to celebrate the approach of the Chocolate Egg holiday! I wanted to share one of my Easter projects, and enter it into a few challenges. And I loved all the inspiration from the design teams, I just love browsing these blogs and admiring the amazing creativity that is out there. The theme of the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge is Happy Easter and/or Sweet treats. I would say this card has both, as to me it's clear the eggs on the designer paper are chocolate eggs... The theme for the Make My Monday challenge is Easter card or creation. And finally, the Stampin' Royalty challenge this week is a picture inspiration challenge using the picture below. Inspiring me both with the egg theme as well as the bright colours which are reflected in the designer paper I was using.

I just love the Stampin' Up owl punch, and have made several projects with it in the past. This time I turned the cute little owls into Easter chicks. I punched the chicks in Hobbycraft three shades of yellow cardstock and inked around the edges with Mustard Seed distress ink. I painted the feet and the beak using 80's glam Sharpies. The papers are from the Stampin' Up Birds of a Feather DSP and the background stamp is the lovely new Hardwood stamp, which is quickly becoming my favourite background stamp. I used leftover scraps of cardstock for the banners and stamped the Happy using Hobbycraft typewriter alphabet (I seriously need to invest in a new alphabet stamp set, I have been drooling over the ah-maa-zing Lawn Fawn alphabets and matching dies, and I think they will be my next crafting investment). The Easter is die cut from yellow paper using the Sizzix Bug in a Rug alphabet dies and inked around the edges with Mustard seed.
Stamps: Hardwood, Hobbycraft clear typewriter alphabet
Inks: Stampin' Up Sahara Sand, Tim Holtz Mustard Seed distress ink
Paper: Stampin' Up Birds of a Feather DSP
Cardstock: Hobbycraft three shades of blue 160 gsm cardstock, Hobbycraft three shades of yellow 160 gsm cardstock, Hobbycraft white 160 gsm cardstock, Papermania capsule sizzling red hot cardstock, Craft UK kraft card
Other: 80's glam Sharpies
I just realised I should celebrate my first crafting birthday. Although it feels like such a long time ago, it was only last year that I got my first pack of cardstock and a heart punch and made a few very clumsy Valentine's day cards. After that, this whole crafting thing has gotten just a little bit out of control. I shudder to think how much money I have spent on stamps, inks, cardstock and all sorts of other crafting equipment in these short 12 months. But also, how much joy they have brought me. Especially once I found the products that really work for me and the stamps and inks I'm most comfortable working with. Papercrafting is such a great hobby, it is relaxing and creative at the same time, and you are only limited by your own imagination (and all those cool new stamps and other products that keep going straight to the top of my "must have" list).
I love the Stampin' Up owl punch. The owls are just so cute with their googly eyes. My sis loves owls, she has owl pillows on her sofa, and I have made an owl card for her before. But this one is better! I sent it to her for Valentine's day.
I used the owl punch to stamp owls from watercolour paper. I used my lovely set of 80's glam Sharpies my dear Culinary Consultant got me for Xmas to colour the owls. I love the colours, they are so bright. To create the tree, I used the Cracked Tim Holtz Sizzix folder to emboss white cardstock. I then fussycut the tree based on a template I drew free hand and inked it with Scattered Straw, Vintage Photo and Walnut stain distress inks. Then I created the setting sun, again using distress inks (Fired Brick, Spiced Marmelade, Wild Honey and Mustard Seed) and die cut a circle. The background is inked (from top to bottom) using Broken China, Dusty Concorde, Worn Lipstick, Wild Honey, Peeled Paint and Pine Needles. Then I attached everything onto Kraft cardstock. This is one card which actually turned out better than I ever thought, I love all the bright colours and the lightly crazy looking owls. It makes me smile every time, and I like the way the Cracked embossing folder makes the tree look really cool.
