Bundle of Joy

I have often said this, but for a professional project manager I really suck at managing my own life. Unless by managing you mean eating chocolate and hiding from the world in my craft room. Anyhow, today I have taken refuge from the craziness that is my life and the craziness that is British February weather into the safety (and chaos) of my craft room. I'm writing this on the sofa, covered by blankets, munching on some Christmas chocolates our friendly nearby chocolate shop was selling at a whopping 70% off. Now that's what I call a good deal (for my wallet, not my waistline).

It's been a while since I've managed any crafty time, and I was inspired by a few recent challenges to create this card using the Lawn Fawn Plus One stamp set which I haven't had a chance to use yet. I was inspired by the sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches and the colour palette at Color Throwdown. I was also inspired by the Transport It theme over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and the Birds theme over at Make My Monday. Last but not least I'm also linking up with the Anything Goes theme over at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge.

This wasn't anything particularly sophisticated, a bit of die cutting, a bit of stamping and a bit of Copic colouring and hey presto. I like the colours as they are quite gender neutral so it would be great for a little bundle of joy of any gender.

Card: 250 gsm white card, Hobbycraft 160gsm white card
Stamps: Lawn Fawn Plus One and matching dies
Ink and colouring: Tsukineko Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics
Paper: Lawn Fawn Let's Polka Mon Amie and Let's Polka in the Dark
Dies: Lawn Fawn Simple Puffy Cloud and Spring Showers

Watercolour Stencil Bold Bloom

It's been a busy few weeks with tags for the Love TAGplorations, the STAMPlorations CUTplorations release and the CAS challenge reminder. Today however I decided to make a card just for the sake of it. I love starting my weekend mornings with a bit of time in the craft room. Although the next time in the craft room I have to spend not crafting but cleaning - I tend to let everything pile up on my desk until I simply can't push stuff aside anymore to make room for crafting, and that's the dire situation I have reached once again. My desk is full of pieces of cardstock, stamps, ink pads and whatnot. What drives me crazy is that although I always try to be really careful with my embossing powder, there is embossing powder all over the place, and it clings to everything. I bet I can't be the only crafter with this issue?

Anyhow, today's card was inspired by the lovely image over at Inspired By All The Little Things. I was inspired by the colours and the lovely bokeh which I decided to represent by adding some sequins. I was inspired to use watercolour as that's the new challenge over at AAA Cards. The layout of the card was inspired by CAS(E) This Sketch. I'm also linking up with Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge where the theme is to use your favourite tool, which in my case is my beloved Big Shot which I used to die cut the sentiment. Last, but not least I'm linking up with Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge where the theme is Fantastic Florals.

When I saw the sketch challenge I knew the blob in the middle had to be the lovely Peony Number Two stencil which I absolutely love. I used Gansai Tambi watercolours to colour through the stencil, blending some yellow and various reds to create the bloom. I also added some of the pearlescent Gansai Tambi watercolour to the outer leaves of the bloom for some added sparkle, I love the subtle effect of it. I love how the colours will run all over the place creating a very artsy version of the stencilled image. I took a piece of card from my UFO box which didn't work at all for whatever I initially created it for, but I thought it would be perfect for the die cut and used the CUTplorations Celebrate word die. Last, I added some blue Ranger Ice Stickles to the sentiment and added some blue sequins to represent the bokeh from the inspiration image.

Card: 300 gsm Daler&Rowney watercolour paper, scrap of card I created with blue Distress Paints
Colouring: Gansai Tambi watercolours
Stencil: ARTplorations Peony Number Two
Die: CUTplorations Celebrate word die
Other: Ranger blue Ice Stickles and sequins from my stash

February STAMPlorations CAS Challenge - Mid-Month Inspiration

We are midway through February so it's time for a quick reminder of our current STAMPlorations CAS challenge. Although we have now passed the pink day (did you have a good V-day? or maybe you had an awesome Galentine's instead?) there are still a few weeks left to create a CAS card featuring hot pink for the challenge. It's an optional colour twist so if you had enough of pink for a while (whaaaaat??) you could just as well create a non-pink CAS card if you prefer. Pink or not I can't wait to see what you create!

I created a card to match my tag for day 2 of Love TAGplorations. I used Deepti's super cute Tweet Love stamp set which I watercoloured using Tim Holtz Distress Inks. I also stamped the sentiment using Sketchy Alphabet and coloured the letters in yellow. I added a bit of colour to the background by watercolouring through the Dots All Over stencil. Last, I die cut the Hello from a scrap of yellow card and added loads of Ice Stickles.

CUTplorations Mini Release

It's been a busy week here in the InvisiblePinkCraftRoom. First we had the Love TAGplorations event with amazing creations from you all. And now I'm thrilled to be part of the new CUTplorations mini release. The amazing Shery has created three new die sets which me and some of the other STAMPgirls have got our hands on to play with and show you our creations. I got to play with the two new landscape dies, and they are just screaming for colourful skies.
And it wouldn't be a STAMPlorations release if there wasn't some great prizes for you. By commenting on the STAMPlorations blog and the linked designer blogs by Tuesday February 21st you are in the random draw to win:
  • ONE (1) $15 gift certificate
  • ONE (1) choice of either Lacy Edges or the Winter & Spring Stitched Landscape dies
The winners will be announced in the February Challenges and Blog Hops winners post on March 10 so to make sure you don't miss out on the announcement, make sure you follow the STAMPlorations blog.

You can find the new products in the STAMPlorations store here

And if you got inspired to order the new products or anything else from the STAMPlorations store, don't forget you can get 20% off your order by using the discount code STAMPGIRLKAROLA. More info at the end of the post.

First I played with the Stitched Spring Landscape. This die reminds me so much of our summer house, so I wanted to create a gorgeous sunset in the background. I used my Gansai Tambi watercolours for one card and Distress Inks for the other. I think my favourite is the one with the Distress inks as our summer house is also by a lake. I also used the Stitched Snow Hills dies and the Awesome Word die to create the sentiment from gold mirri card.

Next I had a play with the Stitched Winter Landscape die. I started by trying to create a northern lights background using watercolours, but I didn't like the way it looked so I made another one using Distress Inks. I added multiple layers of stitched wintery hills and some Ranger Ice Stickles along with a silver sentiment to create a Christmas card.

After finishing the card, I thought maybe I could use the watercolour background after all and decided to use it to create a page for my journal. Very simply I just die cut the watercolour background using the largest Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle die. Then I simply die cut the Stitched Winter Landscape from white card. I coloured the sentiment stamp using Distress markers in the same colours as the night sky and lightly sprayed with water before stamping. Then I traced the outline of the letters using a black marker and added some highlights using a white gel pen. I also added some stars using the white gel pen and some small die cut snowflakes. I used some yellow Distress Ink and the Oh My Stars stencil to create a background in my journal before adhering the winter scene. Although it started with a background I didn't like at all it actually became my favourite scene in the end!

Card: White 250 gsm card, Hobbycraft 190 gsm white card, Daler&Rowney 300 gsm card, scrap of gold and silver mirri card
Stamps: STAMPlorations Life In Full Colour, Bold Sentiments: Discover, Bold Sentiments: Hashtag Authentic

Love TAGplorations Day 7

Welcome to the final day of STAMPlorations Love TAGplorations. I hope you have enjoyed the amazing inspiration over the last week and also have had fun creating your own Love themed crafts. I have certainly enjoyed all the inspiration both from my fellow DT sisters and especially from you. It's amazing to see all the different creations - proof that there are no limits to the human imagination. Today's tag is dedicated to my dear Culinary Consultant. He is not a very romantic soul - I have learned not to expect anything. To be fair, he did create a custom Valentine's day card the first year we were dating. That's a few years ago now... But that's ok, he has other ways of showing me he cares. We are all different and being in a relationship is all about accepting our differences, isn't it. So if you aren't in a relationship this Valentine's day don't think things would necessary be any different even if you were. I'm saying go out and buy yourself some chocolates (or wine, or whatever your favourite treat is). I will visit the chocolate shop in the weekend to see if they are selling their leftover Valentine's treats for half price, usually they do! If you are looking for a good deal on crafty stash, don't forget you get 20% off your purchase in the STAMPlorations store if you use my discount code STAMPGIRLKAROLA. More info at the end of the post.

For my tag, which I die cut using the largest die from Luggage Tags Nesting Dies, I created a background using Distress ink and the Retro Circles stencil. Then I stamped the delicious looking sundae on white card coloured with Copics and fussy cut. After adhering it to my tag, I added some Crystal Effects to the glass bowl to make it look more glassy and although you cannot see it well in the picture, I added some embossing paste to make the whipped cream look more foamy. Then I stamped the letters onto white card, coloured them with Copics, fussy cut and adhered them to the tag, adding some Ice Stickles for extra bling. Last, I used words from various sentiments to make the second part of the sentiment, sponged some pink ink around the edges of the tag and added a cute little ribbon from my stash.

Love TAGplorations Day 6

Welcome to day 6 of Love TAGplorations. I'm sure you know the drill by now and hopefully you are having as much fun as we are with all these gorgeous tags. For my day 6 tag I used another piece from my UFO box - a piece of blue and pink coloured card I had created with Distress Paints way back when. I decorated it with the gorgeous Trendy Feathers 2 stamps which I heat embossed in white onto another piece of leftover card I created with Distress Paints. I used gesso with the Some Birds stencil - I always feel like I'm doing proper mixed media when I dig out the tube of Gesso. I die cut the sentiment using the Hugs Word Die from the same piece of leftover card as the feathers and finished everything off with loads of Ice Stickles and a ribbon.

Cupcake Inspirations Challenge

Today I'm very excited to be guest designing over at Cupcake Inspirations as the current challenge is sponsored by STAMPlorations.  I always love the gorgeous cupcake images for this challenge, although I have to admit they sometimes make this recovering sugaroholic crave a fix... But at least I can channel all of that sugar craving into my crafting instead! This time the colour combo is a dramatic red - white - black.

CIC394-feb12.png

I decided that the dramatic colours would look stunning on the equally dramatic Bloom Boldly stencil, so I inked through the stencil with Distress Inks. I love how the little hidden hearts in the stencil image match with the little hearts on the cupcakes! The Festive Berries red was absolutely perfect to match the red in the inspiration image, it's so vibrant. I then spritzed some water across the image to give it a little bit of a grunge-y and distressed look. Last, I die cut the sentiment using the Thanks Word Die and added some Crystal Effects to it although it doesn't show very well on the picture. I added three red rhinestones for a finishing touch and matted the panel onto black card before adhering to a white card base. If you got inspired to add some STAMPlorations goodies to your stash, you can use my discount code STAMPGIRLKAROLA at the check-out in the STAMPlorations store to receive 20% off your order (see below for more info)!

Blue Sky Thinking

It's been ridiculously cold and grey outside all day. My coping mechanisms have been to make a huge dutch pancake (although to me it will always seem silly to call it a *dutch* pancake since it's actually Finnish pancake in my opinion, but anyhow...) and ate a gigantic piece of it with stem ginger ice cream and apricot jam. Then I spent the rest of the day in the craft room. The other half has been sitting in his man cave with his head phones on all day, gaming with friends. I don't think I have ever heard him talk that much in one day before, not sure if I should be happy or feel a bit hurt and jealous. Oh well, seems like he is having fun.

And I have been having fun too, as I made this card inspired by the sketch over at CAS(E) This Sketch. I was also inspired by the word inspiration over at Time Out which are "Friends are connected heart to heart, distance and time can't break them apart". I thought the balloon was perfect for the bit about distance. My best friend is far away and I sometimes hope I could just jump into a balloon to get to see her. My inspiration for the silver mirri sentiment was from the "Mirror, Mirror" challenge over at Daring Cardmakers. Last but not least I was inspired by the "Winter blues" challenge over at Shopping Our Stash where the challenge is to crate something with lots of blue but not to make it winter themed. I thought what could be more summery than a brightly coloured balloon?

Love TAGplorations Day 3

Another day, another tag! Welcome to day three of the week long STAMPlorations Love TAGplorations event. By now you probably already know there are plenty of prices to be won by commenting on the projects the DT has created to inspire you and for linking up your own projects as well. There are more details over at the STAMPlorations blog where you can see all the gorgeous projects the DT has created for your inspiration. There is still plenty of time to join in as the commenting and linking is open until February 14th.

lovetagplorations.png

For today's tag I used the new Pocket Blooms stamp set together with a watercolour background I had in my UFO (UnFinished Objects) box. You know when you make something that doesn't actually turn out at all like you wanted it for the project you are doing at the moment, but it's too pretty to throw away. Sometimes I like to challenge myself by deciding that I have to use something from my UFO box. And the watercolour background was perfect for this tag. It looked a bit bare though, so I grabbed some of the gorgeous new Scribbly Splattery Grunge stamps and randomly stamped them in the background using neutral colours. I die cut the pocket from jeans blue card and stamped the flowers on white card, coloured them with Copics and fussy cut them. I also used a scrap of orange card from the UFO box for the die cut sentiment, adding some Ice Stickles for extra bling. I also added a bit of Ice Stickles around the edges of the flowers.

Card: 250 gsm watercolour paper, scrap of Tim Holtz Chipped Sapphire card, scrap of orange card, 250 gsm white card
Stamps: STAMPlorations Pocket Blooms with matching die, Scribbly Splattery Grunge
Ink and colouring: Tsukineko Versafine Onyx Black, Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Gansai Tambi Watercolours, Tim Holtz Distress Inks Hickory Smoke, Antique Linen
Other: Ranger Coffee Ice Stickles, orange ribbon from my stash, Papermania Seafoam White embossing powder

lovetagplorations.png

I started today's tag by stamping the adorable oliphant and balloons from the super-cute Tweet Love in a very light pink. I then used Tim Holtz Distress Inks to watercolour the image to give it a no-line appearance. Next, I used yellow and orange distress inks through the Dots All Over stencil to create a bit of colour in the background. I also used a foam applicator to add some pink around the edges of the tag. I used the Hugs Word Die on a piece of pink scrap card to die cut the sentiment, and stamped the second part of the sentiment using a stamp from Tweet Love. Last, I added some Ice Stickles to the sentiment and some ribbon from my stash. I can't wait to show you the matching card I created to this tag!

For today's tag, I used Faber Castell watercolour pencils to colour through the Zen Hearts stencil onto a kraft tag I cut using the larges of the Luggage Tags Nesting Dies. I then traced the outlines of the coloured pieces using a white gel pen. To match my white outlined stencilled heart I die cut the Clustered Hearts Die from white card and also from a scrap of pink card from my UFO box - I think I created this with Tim Holtz Distress Paints. I then sprayed the tag with gold perfect pearls to give it a very subtle gold sheen - unfortunately I didn't manage to capture that in the photo.

I used another scrap of watercoloured card I created with Distress paints, this time in pink and blue to die cut the "always" using Always Word Die. I adhered the die cut pieces to the tag and stamped the first part of the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black using a stamp from the Pocket Blooms stamp set. For a finishing touch I added some stickles to the die cut sentiment, a few adhesive rhinestones and a white ribbon from my stash.

Minimalism

I've been listening to The Minimalists podcast (which I discovered though the amazing Tracy from Shutterbean, a blog I can warmly recommend if you don't follow it already!). I love the idea of cutting down on the clutter in our lives - that we have been brain washed to think that success and happiness is defined by owning more things when instead we can be much happier when we let go (I'm excluding the craft stash from this line of thought). But to be completely serious, I think there is a point in being mindful about what we own and evaluating whether the things we surround us with add value to our lives. And I have to admit I have a lot of crafty stash which I don't use. I just feel like I can't get rid of it because I paid a lot of money for it. I have some stuff I love and use, and I see no point in getting rid of those. But the other stuff - the stamps I haven't touched for years (or maybe not even used once)? Maybe I could try to sell them on eBay or even donate them to somewhere where they would add value to someone else's life? Does anyone know of any good places that would accept unloved crafty stash? Anyhow, I warmly recommend the podcast and also the Minimalism documentary on Netflix. It certainly gave me lots to think about. Maybe I could finally get rid of all my DVDs (I haven't watched a single one of them during the four years we have lived in this house, still I have loads and loads). I'm also really keen on doing a capsule warderobe type of thing. To be fair, I kind of already do that as I only use a small subset of all the clothes I own, so why do I hang on to clothes I never wear "just because"? I would love to hear your thoughts! One side note about the documentary - seems like a lot of minimalists are extremely good looking men. Just saying...

Talking about minimalism, today's crafty project turned out to be rather minimalist also. I was inspired by the current Tag You're It challenge and the colour challenge over at Color Throwdown. I think this tag would be perfect with a Starbucks or Costa gift card as a thank you for something or other. I just adore the cute little Lawn Fawn mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows (again, going off on a tangent, I bought some raspberry white hot chocolate last weekend, and it's soooo good!). And that adorable little cupcake. Who could resist. Now I'm actually craving hot chocolate and cupcakes. Dang.
