Twofer Feathers

Have you already played along with the most fun new challenge in craft-land, Darnell's Twofer challenge? If not, you may want to check it out! I'm not quite sure how Darnell finds the time to run a very active blog, leave the best comments in Blog-land and now also run her own challenge. Darnell, do you ever sleep? And everyone in the DT are crafty names you are sure to recognize, all super talented crafters, so it was a joy to pop over to see the inspiration for the first challenge. Anyhow, I love the idea of the twofer challenge - to use the same stamp/die to make two different cards for two different occasions. You might as well, when you have your stamps/dies out. The theme of the first Twofer challenge is Feathers.

I decided to do a sympathy card and a birthday card. The first one is a bit of a mixed media CAS one, with some cling wrap inking in blue in the background and added brown ink splatters. The background was created using Distress Inks which give a more translucent look than Oxides (I tried the Oxides first but didn't like the look for this, hence justifying owning both Distress Inks and Oxides - the right tool for the right place). The feathers are stamped, heat embossed and fussy cut. The layout for this card was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches and the colours by Color Throwdown.

My second card is a celebration of the new Distress Oxides I very recently received and many of them are NBUS. I inked up the feathers in rainbow colours and stamped away to my heart's content. The card I used is a slightly shimmery white card, it's really smooth so it took much longer than usual for the inks to dry. Luckily I didn't smudge them too much. I just added a very simple sentimen with white heat embossing and some die cut stitching around the edges. I'm linking this up over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge where the theme is Birds of a Feather and Just Add Ink where the theme is Something new (the Distress Oxides) and they also have a fun blog hop.

Fabulous colourful feather creations Karola. Your first card using two of my favourite colour combinations makes a lovely Sympathy card. Your second one with all those gorgeous rainbow colours is so cheerful. Nice placement. Like the sequins and that tiny black sentiment is perfect.

Two terrific twofers, Karola. Perfect colour choices for the specific occasions.
Your rainbow colour birthday card would also qualify for the current Mod Squad challenge.

I think Darnell has a secret twin...that has to be the answer, lol!! Such wonderful and wonderfully different cards, Karola. The birthday card caught my eye with all those bright and happy colors; someone is going to love getting this in the mail! And your sympathy card is so soft and gentle. They both fit the challenge perfectly. Thanks for joining us at the Twofer Challenge! Bev

Two very creative feather cards Karola!! LOVE the softness and design of your sympathy card. Using cling wrap as the background is perfect. Really shows off your beautiful feathers. The blue and light brown are a great combination. This card works for the CAS Mix Up January Challenge - cling wrap if you'd like to join us there.

Your second card is so pretty and colourful. Rainbow cards are just plain HAPPY! :) I love how you've mixed the colours on each feather.

Thanks for playing along with us at Twofer Card Challenge.

I'm back again with my Twofer hat on, Karola! My secret is having a Mister who takes care of practically everything around here so I have time for all my wonderful friends who live in my computer!! Thank you so much for the kind, supportive, and encouraging comments!

It's wonderful to see you in the gallery with these two utterly unique and fabulous feather designs! I really love the look of the cling wrap technique, but I've never seen it used as just a smidge in the background and I think it's brilliant! The colors and layout are so effective for a sympathy card. And your rainbow feather background for your congratulations card is a delight! It just screams celebration!!

Thank you for playing with us for my first Twofer challenge! I look forward to seeing you again in the gallery next month when the prompt word will be "Walnuts!" Just kidding!! Hugs, Darnell

What remarkable versatility you've shown with these two cards! I love seeing the feathers used in such different ways. Very clever to make the feather be the background pattern on the one card and I like the white feather outlines against the colored paper in the other card. Two excellent examples of feathers at their best! Thank you for sharing your talents with us for this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!

Both of these cards are fabulous Karola and your different designs suit their themes so perfectly. Your rainbow feathers card is so celebratory and I love how you’ve used the DI to create the cling wrap and the subtle colour tones so perfect for a sympathy card. Thanks for sharing with us at Just Add Ink this week.

Two lovely ways to show case the feathers. I really like the rainbow of colour, but the softness of the second looks great too. Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week.
