Holly Jolly - Clean and Simple

As it gets sunny and warm outside, you may think Christmas is the last thing on your mind. But I'm here to remind you about that crazy rush in December and how you can avoid it. For my card I chose the super cute Bugaboo digi Penguin Joy. I printed three copies of the image and die cut them using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle dies (probably my most used dies ever). I chose three colours for the cards, traditional Christmas Green and Red but also a purplish pink for a more non-traditional look. As the finishing touch I added some Ice Stickles to the snow for a bit of sparkle. I think this is such a great clean, easy and quick card design. It looks great but it's easy to make a good stash without having to spend too much time. I think I'm going to make a few more of this design in even more colours.

J is for Joke

We enjoyed our first asparagus of the season last night. I love watching those little beauties come up from the barren ground all beautiful and green and purple. I took some pictures of my asparagus the other day. It was the tastiest asparagus ever, and we enjoyed them with some parma ham and hollandaise, and it was absolutely wonderful. 

The current challenge over at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers is "J is for Just Kidding". And of course there is only one lady that can pull off that theme - Stella. I seem to go with Stella quite often for the Sisterhood Challenges... When I saw this image in the Bugaboo store I knew I had to have it, as I have always been the girl who fell for the gay guys. The two great loves of my life are both gay and I keep telling the Culinary Consultant I will turn him gay one day, although he keeps denying it. Oh well, time will tell. I'm also linking up with Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge which is "In the Middle" as Stella is in the middle of the card, but she is also in the middle, between two sentiments. I'm also linking up with Clear it Out where the theme is yellow. 

Anyhow, for today's card, I simply printed out Stella in all her glory and coloured her with Copics. I used Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle dies to cut out the image and I wanted her to have a really sunny time on the beach so I matted everything onto bright yellow cardstock. Then all I did was addd the sentiment, and as they say - Bob's your uncle, who lives with his friend George in San Francisco.

Spring bunnies

Still needed another Easter card. I think I should have most of them done by now, or maybe one or two more, not quite sure. What I am sure of is that my next card will not be an Easter card, as much as I love the adorable bunnies and easter eggs, there's only so much a girl can take. However, that does remind me of chocolate eggs, there is no limit to how many of those a girl can take! 

Anyhow, for todays' card I used an uber-cute bunny digi from Bugaboo. I coloured the bunny bunch using Copics. I used my new, but already much beloved Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle dies to cut the panels. I used my one and only Easter sentiment, note to self - get another one before Easter next year... The layout for my card is inspired by the sketch over at RetroSketches, although I chose to flip it onto it's side. I'm also playing Bingo over at Catch the Bug with Spring/Easter image, player's choice (faux stitching) and die cuts. More pastel Easter

Looks like my theme for this year's Easter cards are pastel colours and Distress ink backgrounds. For Grandma's card, I used an adorable Easter digi from Bugaboo stamps, which I coloured with Copics. I created the background by embossing resist, I stamped the ornate Easter egg and heat embossed with clear powder before inking with just three colours, yellow, turquoise and pink. Where the colours overlap they create such wonderful, vibrant greens, purples and oranges as well, so it looks like there was much more colours used. This is such a great tip especially if you are new to crafting and haven't built up a big stash yet, by choosing smartly you can get so much more out of your stash. I die cut the image and background vellum using Lawn Fawn dies, and printed the sentiment as I have a very limited supply of Finnish sentiments (my Grandma doesn't speak a word of any other language than Finnish).

Holly Jolly - Dies and Punches

Although the weather has turned sunnier outside, it's time to get back into snow-y sentiments and freezing cold temperatures in your crafting mind to get into the mindset of creating another Christmas Card. For my card, I used the adorable Snowball Penguins from Bugaboo. I just love the penguins, you can find lots of digis where they are having wintery adventures. I coloured them with Copics, and added Ice Stickles to the snow balls. I matted them onto a die cut frame. I also die cut the letters for "Merry" and added stickles for a bit of shimmer. For the "Christmas" panel I got out my corner rounder punch. I thought the snowflake paper went perfectly with the penguin's snowy antics.

My Snarky Valentine

I'm enjoying a lazy day off. I had to stay at home, we are finally getting hooked up with high speed broadband. The engineer better get here today as agreed, I don't have the best track record with broadband service providers and they better not make me take another day off. I can't wait to have fast internet though, we have been getting by on 2 Mb and it means from time to time I have to even wait for webpages to load, not to mention streaming. But soon we can stream as much as we want!! We have been waiting for this for ages. I'm also notorious for leaving a gazillion web pages open at any one time, and sometimes everything just freezes because of the slow internet. I can't imagine what it will be like living with a civilised internet speed. The joys of living in the countryside, waiting for years and years for technology to catch up.

Onto today's card. It should be evident by now that I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's day. I guess I was alone for so long I developed quite a distaste for the whole thing. And we aren't very romantic in this house. But I do feel like a small acknowledgement of the V day is in order now that I seem to be in what can be called a stable relationship.

I think Gus got it right on the spot in this Bugaboo digi. I thought it would make a great Valentine's card for my Culinary Consultant. Neutral colours, snarky sentiment. The card was quick to put together, I just coloured Gus and the frame around him and stamped the Hardwood and Gorgeous Grunge stamps onto kraft card. That's it, all done. I added adhesive gems in the corners which I coloured with a brown Sharpie. I'm sure the Culinary Consultant will find this funny. And I'm giving him the best Valentine's day present - a DVD box of Game of Thrones season 4 which in fact I want myself. I know he likes it too, but more than that, I'm giving him something we can actually watch together without me being bored or falling asleep. How smart am I, lol!! No, seriously he does like it too.

Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge - Angels or Fairies

I'm very excited as today we have a new challenge for you over at Holly Jolly. This time the theme is Angels or Fairies. We are sponsored by A Day for Daisies, QKR Stampede and Bugaboo. I always love the challenges where Bugaboo is a sponsor as I get to play with the fabulous Stella. This time I used Stella Tidbits Fairy Visit. She is just the best, and I love her in her little fairy costume. Nothing says Christmas like a happy little Stella fairy, right? This time I thought I would try to make a bit of a mixed media tag. The great thing about starting your Christmas crafting early is that you can put quite a bit of time and effort into each piece. It will be November again sooner than you think, and then you have to come up with simple designs for mass production, so the beginning of the year is the perfect time to make your more elaborate Christmas crafts. 

I started by creating the background onto a kraft tag using Tim Holtz distress paints. I dabbed the paints onto my craft mat, spritzed generously with water and swirled my tag in the paint. After thoroughly drying the tag with my heat gun, I used Distress Inks and a star stencil to created the stars in the background. The I used a beautiful Christmas ornament stamp which I heat embossed in gold powder. I coloured Stella with Copics and fussy cut her. I die cut the snowflake and bow from copper cardstock and printed and inked the words for the sentiment. Last I added some ribbon, twine and a bell, and a die cut border to the bottom of the tag. As a finishing touch, I added some Ice Stickles to the Stella's stars and the centre of the snowflake flower.

Reindeer cards

Not many days left to display my remaining Christmas crafty projects! I'm rather behind with my blogging as I have been so busy enjoying my Christmas holiday and seeing friends and family. Yesterday I came back "home" to my Mum's after celebrating one of my best friend's PhD. In Finland it's a great big celebration with a formal three course sit down dinner in evening gowns and tailcoats for the people who have been involved in the work of the PhD candidate followed by a great big all night party for all colleagues and friends. He was the last of our "old group" of colleagues to get his PhD and it was so bittersweet to see all my old colleagues for what is most likely the last time, all together having fun. But I also realised I am starting to get a bit too old to party all night as I felt like hell unleashed when I woke up at 10:30 am after about four hours of sleep, and had to get ready to check out of our hotel room. To balance it all out, I slept 12 hours last night.

But on to the reason we are here today. The theme for our Secret Santa at work this year was "Something home made". I decided to make a little Christmas first aid kit. A home made gift bag, some gift tags and Christmas cards. All with cute reindeer images from Bugaboo. 

The first part of my gift kit was published as part of my DT assignment for Holly Jolly recently, you can find them here. So in addition to the gift bag and tags, I wanted to make a few cards with envelopes. I used the same reindeer image that I used for the gift bag, coloured it with Copics and matted on alternating white and red card. I kept the cards very simple, just added a little touch of glitter and a few snowflakes for embellishment. 

I stamped the sentiment inside the card along with a few sprigs of holly. I made two envelopes to match the cards as they were a bit smaller than regular cards, so the regular envelopes I usually use would have been too big. I think together they made a nice little kit for Christmas gift giving and greeting needs.

I also made another card with the same reindeer digi stamp with a Swedish sentiment (not for the Secret Santa gift, but as I'm running out of days to publish my remaining Christmas cards, I thought it would fit in here as it's the same image).

Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge - gift bag and tags

It's time for this year's last challenge over at Holly Jolly. The year is drawing to a close, and we are celebrating December with an extra long challenge. You will have twice the usual time to participate as we know how busy it gets around this time of the year. But if you are still crafting in the days leading up to Christmas, do come and join us as our theme is "Anything Goes" so you can enter any of your crafty creations for our last challenge of the year. I love the Bugaboo digi stamps, and the reindeers are one of my favourites. I decided to make a set of gift tags and a gift bag. For the tags I used the Christmas Tags Rudolph digi which I coloured with Copics and matted onto coloured cardstock that I had punched using the Stampin' Up Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. I added some glitter to the Christmas Ornaments for that extra bling factor.

For the matching gift bag, I used the Reindeer Christmas Goodies digi. I made the bag from matching Christmas DSP. Last, I added some die cut snowflakes and a bit of glitter for a finishing touch.

Christmas Birds

Just a quick post today, as I'm expecting dinner guests today and am going around like crazy cleaning the house and prepping dinner. But there's always time for a quick Christmas card, isn't there?

The colour inspiration for this card was the snowflake paper I used for the background. I coloured the Bugaboo Winter Bird Trio using Copics and matted onto blue cardstock. I made the snowflake embellishments by die cutting snowflakes from blue cardstock and then triple embossing them using clear and holographic embossing powder. I printed the sentiments and matted onto blue cardstock.

Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge - Snowmen

I can't believe it's already two weeks since my first DT post for the Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge. Today there is a new challenge, and the theme is Snowmen. So hop over to the Holly Jolly blog to check out the inspiration from the amazing DT.  This week the challenge sponsors are The Stamping Boutique and Bugaboo Stamps, who are giving away great prizes to the winners. Congrats to the winner of the previous challenge, Anything Goes.

For today's card I have used Bugaboo's stamp Winter trio with the adorable snowmen and penguin. I coloured the image with Copics. I matted the image onto purple stripy paper which I think matches the scarves of the snowmen. I created the background using a stencil and Tim Holtz distress inks. I created the little snowflake ornament by die cutting two different snowflakes using my new All Occasion Dies from blue cardstock. I triple-embossed the snowflakes using clear and holographic embossing powder, attached them on top of each other and finished it with a gem in the middle. I got the inspiration for this from this amazing card by Karren over at Stamping Stuff. It was a bit time consuming, but well worth the effort in my completely unbiased opinion, hehe.

Holly Jolly Challenge - Anything Goes

I'm so excited about today's card as it's my first on the DT for the Holly Jolly Christmas challenge. The theme for the new challenge, which runs for two weeks, is Anything Goes. As long as it's about Christmas, share it with us at the Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge! I made my card using one of Bugaboo's funny Christmas stamps called Santa Died. Stella is just so much fun and I had a great time colouring her. I know exactly who I will be sending this card to! One more reason I'm so excited about my DT assignment is that I get to play with digi stamps which I haven't done very much in the past, and I get to work on my colouring skills. Here I used Copics to colour the image, and matted it onto some Christmassy designer paper. I thought a bit of glitter would be appropriate for the occasion so I used a die to cut out the bauble from blue glitter paper and added some stickles to the Christmas tree ornaments and around the panels.
